The robot arm is the significant role in
the automatic control engineering, which consist of mechanism, electronic and
programing. It is difficult to distinguish the boundary between three parts
above. The industrial automatic productions demand the high accuracy and reliability
requiring high costs. It is properly development the simplified model depending
upon the basic theory and small scale pattern, despite we are not involve in
this field. Fortunately, the useful resources flourish discussion and provided
on the Internet platform. Basing on the semi-finished controller and
programming library, what merely we are supposed to do is generating the
creativities to think and make the model we are necessary.
The first simple trial model is based on
the Arduino development kit. The servo motors required purchasing and the
connection rods were made of wood and cardboard. The regular 6 axis robot arms
provided the reference for mechanism design. Both basic artwork and woodworking
were taken advantage of by the tools we original possess but which are seldom
used. Generally, the mechanism was much harder than I had expected in the beginning.
Except for the processing problems with unfamiliar tools including cutting and
drilling, the reasonable motion design and the weight balance have also taken
me a lot of time. The second one was the circuit design according to Arduino
board. We attempt to join several additional functions, containing the rotation
control interface, the LED screen display, and remote control. The items above
would not affect the main structure of this project, so we had kept the
flexible room for adjustment in the future. However, there is limitation of the
additional pattern due to the quantity of the input or output connection. If there
has been already installation of six servo motor, it would be more difficult to
join too much extra function on the board. For the first trial I have developed
the project, it is naturally that I was likely to be over ambitious for the approaching
objective. It would be fine for mixing with more creativity when it is actually
necessary in the future.
On the other hand, the programming according
to hardware of development kit is much easier compared to complicated data structure.
The processing and calculation of data on the development board are via the
single chip microcomputer which is not able to process too much complexity. The
libraries corresponding to each actuators or sensor are available to be
acquired in the public forum or association. The complicated section under the
bottom level have often solved in these libraries. It is probably merely necessary
to set the parameter in the function for several specific adjustments. Although,
sufficiently resources are available for take advantage of, the main value is
still in the creativities for application. Making new idea for next trial would
be continuously carry on, and these tools are the reliable backing for our
creation.
